About Carla
Carla J is not your typical motivational speaker. She is dynamically vibrant, bold, conscious, and capable of inspiring audiences to fully connect with their true purpose in life. With a mind for people and purpose, she paints a vivid canvas with her words to tell her life's story. She is a conqueror with a heart of consideration who adapts to any environment.
Carla J is a native Houstonian who’s path in life has allowed her to experience tragedy and triumph. She has a bachelor's degree in Human Resources/Training and a master's degree in Education/Curriculum and Design from the University of Houston. She's a recent retiree from the Houston Independent School District after having served over 30 years. She started as a bus driver in January 1981 and retired as a high school administrator.
As a speaker, Carla J brings her front line life experiences and infectious energy to each person in the audience. They laugh, cry, and leave knowing that with God’s help, they have the power to overcome and achieve anything. Carla J has been afforded the opportunity to speak before many organizations, schools, and churches. Carla J is also an award winning member of Toastmaster’s International.
Carla J is the author of “Lessons My Momma Taught Me.” It is a well written memoir which includes anecdotes combined with unforgettable stories that she was blessed to be the recipient of from the woman who’s responsible for who she is today: her mother. Two of the mantras Carla J lives by are simple yet profound, “There are lessons and blessings in every storm.” and "Bitterness blocks your blessings." Carla J also believes that releasing bitterness is freeing and opens your heart, mind, and soul to the wonderful possibilities of living a richer and more fulfilling life.
